Ruger Red Label, 12 ga limited edition - info help

I have a chance to buy a Ruger Red Label, new in box. It is an earlier Red Label, manufactured in 1982. I can buy it for $850.

It is 12 gauge, 2 3/4 " only, full and modified fixed chokes. The barrel is either 28 or 26", I can't remember.
I was told that it is a limited edition wereas the receiver is blued and not the typical stainless. I can honestly sday I never saw a Red Label (in 12 gauge) that didn't have a stainless receiver. The wood is sweet, has a red butt pad and the gun was never shot.

Did anyone ever hear of this "limited edition" that featured the blued receiver?

If I buy it, plan on shooting it, mostly for occasional grouse hunting. I am a sucker for earlier made guns rather than the new and I suppose that is why I am a fool for thinking about a straight choke 2 3/4" scattergun....and then taking it out of it's box and losing value on it as soon as I shoot it!

I am open for any comments on it's legitimacy of being a "limited edition" and why I should or should not buy it.

I am already past the "if you really like it, just buy it" thought process!

The blued guns were not "limited edition" per se, they were just earlier guns.

I have a Red Label with stainless receiver, blued barrels and fixed chokes, imp cylinder and modified and shoots 2 3/4" only. It was made after yours but before screw in chokes and 3" chambers were introduced.

You can get the choke-set and SS receiver RL's on Gunbroker for less.

Resale would be better with a 3 inch too.

In the future the enviro's are going to try and outlaw lead shot. You might want room for a bit more steel, and no more full choke barrels.
