A friend of mine has this rifle and would like to sell it. Knowing nothing about the 25-35, winchester serial numbers, or it value, I always come to you guys. The bluing is very good (95%) and the stock is original finish with light handling marks. He says that the rifle is dated back to the early '40's. Serial # is 1442xxx. Metal butt plate is in great shape. Just looking for a ballpark $$. Thinking I would put it on gunbroker for him, but I would still like to have some idea of value. Could ya'll help me? Thanks

Actually, it dates to mid 1947. Does it have the war style "flat-band" or the milled figure-8 front barrel band? I can give you a much better idea of the value if you post several pictures of it. Please be sure to include clear close-up pictures of the proof marks.

    Bert,
I'll get back with you with the pics this afternoon. If you are talking about the barrel band, it has the regular forend-barrel band that i've seen on nearly all model 94's. I'll get you a good closeup and let you decide. thanks

I thought that it might have a flat-band based on the serial number and date of manufacture. I will look forward to seeing the pictures.

    Bert,
I've sent them to you the pics directly. Couldn't figure out the sticky note. Really not sure I figured out the "attaching the pics" part of emailing.[:)]

Thanks again Bert for your time. This will give the owner a idea and also whether or not he wants to sell it at all. Tahnks also for the picture advice. I've tried many times and they all come out dark. I'll try the outdoor lighting approach.

    Bert,
Would the price differ if the gun had not been refinished. The only reason i'm saying this is the fellow that owns the gun said that it had not been reblued. The action is extremely stiff. He has had it for approx. 20 years and only shot it less than 20 times. The guy that owned it before him had shot it less than that. It was, as I have heard before, the closet queen.

Yes, the price would be at least 5x what I quoted to you... if the finish on the gun is 100% factory original.

However, my practiced eyes tell me otherwise (based on the pictures you sent). The action should not be "extremely stiff" on a factory original gun.

Now, if you can reshoot the pictures in better light, send them to me, I will take another look at it again. Please provide clear pictures of all the markings on the barrel, and on the frame (the proof mark on the top of the frame ring is very critical).
