Hello I was told that you don't need a gun licence or a FLL if you purchase a gun from another resident of Arizona? I was looking for a 22. Cal revolver. My age is 48 and I have black powder guns that are legal to own here without a licence.

What do you mean by a license? There is no requirement of having a license to own a gun in Arizona. There is a permit required to carry one concealed.

    wally147,

Welcome to the forum. For federal ATF regs, you do not need a license or FFL to purchase a handgun from another resident who does not possess an FFL in the State of Arizona. The thing you will need to check is whether or not there is a State or city regulation that prevents this.

If there is you will need to meet that regulation. The Federal regs state that as long as you meet state requirements regarding handguns, you can purchase what you want.

Wally, welcome. A FFL is shorthand for Federal Firearms License- issued to dealers, collectors, manufacturers etc, to permit them to do business across state lines. If you want to buy a firearm IN YOUR HOME STATE, rifle, pistol, or shotgun, you do not need a license of any kind in AZ to do that. IF you want to buy from a dealer, they will have you fill out paperwork, run a background check while you wait, record the details of your sale, you pay them, take your gun, go on your way. If you want to buy a gun from a private citizen, not a dealer, and you are BOTH residents of Arizona, you pay him, and go on your way. You cannot buy a handgun, either from a dealer or a private citizen in another state EXCEPT by having it shipped to a dealer in your home state. If you know what type of handgun you are looking for, the auction side of this website would be a good place to shop. Again, will need to be shipped to a dealer in your home state (this time you would pay the receiving dealer a fee for his time and trouble) If you have questions, feel free to write again.
