Kydex holsters

I just bought a new Glock 26 for ccw. I used to carry a Taurus Mil Pro in a Fobus paddle holster. I have had people tell me that kydex holsters will scratch the blueing off the slide quicker than any other holster material. I know the finish on the glock is somewhat different, and maybe harder? I would like to get some opinions on the Fobus holster and the possible wearing off the Glock finish. Also, I never saw any sign of wear on the Taurus, and I carried it off and on for 6 months.

I read somewhere that kydex does not scratch or mar the finish on handguns.Anyone with experience with these holsters I would like to hear from. Is this true or not? Can anyone recommend a holster maker that makes quality products. Thanks in advance for your help.

The tennifer finish on Glocks is probably 500 times harder than the Kydex holsters. I have been carrying my Glock 19 in one for a long time with no wear to the gun.

It's going to take enough draws to wear your arm out to wear the finish on a Glock [:D]

So the tenifer finish is actually the last, exterior finish?

I carried a couple different gun's (sig, glocks, and 1911's) in Fobus holsters at the shop. If wipe the dust out of them every so often they will not scratch your guns.

However, once I found Don Hume Leather Holsters, I sold all my Fobus holsters. Don Humes are leather, made in the US, and similiarly priced to Fobus.

    Check em out:

I like the JIT Slide and the Double 9 holsters. I've found the cheapest place to buy them is on ebay but you could probably have your dealer order whichever holster you like.

Another reason to not carry in fobus is:

A great quality line of Kydex holsters are manufactured bt a company called BladeTech. Try looking up their web site...they have a large stock of Glock holster types.

+1 drobs! Scary for the fobus...I never realized that!
I carried a Glock 17 in a Fobus for one year and suffered slight slide/finish wear from the holster; also I carried a Glock 23 in the same Fobus for around 4 months and started seeing the same wear to the finish (very unsightly). I then switched to the Don Hume 715 IWB leather holster (for the G23) and am very satisfied. Plus the more I wear it, the better it feels (broken in). Although I felt the slide wear with using the Fobus was a reasonable trade-off, because it always carried well, I am a little concerned now after viewing that video clip drobs has attatatched.

i've had glocks for years. i've carried one as a cop and if you're carrying it as a concealed carry, it should be treated as a tool. all guns that are carried in this manner are tools. the finish is quite tough. i carried my glock for 10 years in a duty holster and threw it around quite a lot. treated very rough. showed some wear on the corners of upper receiver, but never had any issue with performance. don't worry about the finish. you've got a great weapon that'll last a long, long time...paulquote:Originally posted by glock__26
