Does anyone have experience with Miltech K98 Mausers? Or can anyone suggest a reliable source for non-Russian, collector grade K98 Mausers? Lsuglia

There is no "German Military Mauser Warehouse" in the phone book. There's enough demand for one, there's just no source of genuine rifles. Besides, any gun imported since 1968 will have import markings stamped on, pretty much taking it out of the "collectible" category. There are many reliable dealers who occasionally get a nice Mauser in the store, but they sell quickly; no one has racks of them.
There is no shortcut. If you want a collectible Mauser & don't want to get burned on junkers, you must educate yourself (or find a nearby collector willing to take you under his wing.) Join the NRA, & read their magazine every month. Subscribe to 1 or 2 other gun magazines. Buy several books on the subject. Read the online forums such as this. Browse the online auctions for guns that interest you, & track what they sell for. Go to the gun shows that feature collector-type guns, & learn by looking, handling, & asking questions (the MACA show will be held in Timonium, MD in March). Knowledge will enable you to become an expert.

Does it have to be a collector? If not, you can get an A-1 mauser that looks/shoots good from several sources. Classicarms/Miltech/Mitchells, for instance. Or online here, for 1/4 the price. Just won't be as pretty. Joe
