I would to know what the original configuration of an 1897 Winchester Slide action s/n 415515 might be?

    Winchester Model 1897 serial number 415515 was manufactured circa 1908 or 1909. Unfortunately, the original factory ledger records for the Model 1897 end at serial number 377,999, so it is not possible to have it researched or lettered. That said, it is usually possible to determine if a gun is original (or not) by looking at all of its features. So, for starters, please answer the follwing questions;

    1. Gauge?
    2. Barrel length (from the muzzle face to the front of the breech block with the action closed)?
    3. Is it a "D" series or an "E" series (the letter stamped just above the serial number on the frame?
    4. Takedown or solid frame?
    5. Round knob pistol grip, or semi-pistol grip
    6. Plain barrel or matted?
    7. Choke marking (left rear side of the barrel)?
    8. Does it have any markings on the right side of the bolt?
    9. Plain or checkered stocks?
    10. Checkered steel butt plate or black hard rubber?
