Outside-the-Pants Concealed Carry

For a few years now I've carried concealed strictly with IWB holsters. I really like the looks of some of these nice leather holsters that ride outside the pants or just behind the hip. But, I'm just confused how people conceal a holster and gun that is hanging on your belt outside your pants. Do you wear longer shirts and coats to cover them? If so, it seems like they would print through a shirt pretty badly not being inside the pants. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks.

I've always worn belt holsters (outside). Being retired, I rarely, if ever, wear a shirt tucked-in. Like my shirts/sweatshirts a little on the bulky side anyway; therefore, can't see any print of CCW.

I always conceal on the outside, too. I just wear t-shirts, sweatshirts, jacket, etc. that are a size larger to prevent any printing.

Lift weights :) The bigger your chest is in relation to your waist, the easier it is to conceal a gun carried outside the waistband. Your shirt just hangs down off your shoulders and conceals the gun. I never liked IWB carry, I have always carried OWB.

I carry a Glock 26 in a Fobus paddle and my friends OR my wife never know I'm carrying unless I tell them. The worst time I've ever printed looked like a small cell phone under my shirt. In my opinion, the paddle is WAY more comfortable than any IWB I've tried. I wear my paddle between the belt and pants/shorts, and it is most comfortable there, rather than over everything. I work at a hardware store, and do ALOT of walking everyday, and forget sometimes that I have it on.

You open a Pandoras Box whenever you bring up holsters, but here goes.
Depending on your build CCW can be easy or tough. I like a high ride for belt carry that raises the weapon up. There are so many holsters out there, but I had one that was a two piece design. The bottom piece was rigid and rode even with the belt line and the top protruded upward with a quick detach device. The holster itself clicked on the bottom piece placing the weapon about the same height as a sholder holster. A push of a button and the holstered weapon could be popped off and put away like in your desk or glove compartment. Loose clothing as other members have mentioned is beneficial.
A retired police chief once told me that carrying a concealed weapon was a lot like being sexually excited. You know it, but no one else notices.
