I was just reading through some penetration test data, and unless Im not reading correctly the bullets had better penetration on the clothed gelitain than the bare. Is this common and/or why?

I believe the fabric clogged HPs preventing full expansion with its' increased drag.

v35 is correct. the clothing fibres and especially leather fill up in the hollowpoint and it basically becomes a fmj in a sort of way.

If a hollow Point hits anything it will expand as rapidly as it is traveling (?) leather ? unless it is (Very!!!DRY) it will still expand,.... I promise I have done this over and over again ( got a few Deer under my belt)[|)] I never liked hollow point projectiles until I started using smaller caliber bullets. ??

    I like hndy80hp.. Bang/Flop

Velocity has a big hand in the matter. HPs expand explosively at rifle velocity. Note the huge openings on some pistol bullets to ensure
    expansion at low velocities.
The tests referred to I believe involved handgun bullets.
