Buy this Garand or a CMP?

I saw a nice Garand for sale locally for $795. It is a Springfield Armory made in 1944 with a SA 1951 barrel. The buttstock is a replacement made of Beech or Birch I believe. The balance of the wood is walnut. Overall condition is very good to excellent. Bore looks good with muzzle wear maybe a 2 or 3. Would you buy this one or order one from CMP? Thanks for any replies.

I would kick in for one of the correct grade HRA or Springfields for investment and shooting or go for the SA grade HRA or Spsringfield for a pure shooter from CMP. I would not buy a field or rack grade if this is the only Garand your going to buy. The rifle your looking at is a mix master and you gave no ME or TE so there is no way to know conditon of the chamber or the muzzel, most of the CMP rifles with be 1 or 2 on both and less if you get lucky and the furtue value is another consideration.

    Good, luck
