Ruger Target Mini 14 cleaning

With the tuneable barrel on the target Mini 14 should you take the dampner part off to clean? If you leave it on what happens to the solvent and worse the copper cleaner when it gets into the threads.

I'd throw a couple of half hitches around it then a bowen too the hitch on the dodge drag down the road until the rope is clean [:o)]

    LOL!

sorry it's just the first thing that comes to mind when i see anything "mini-14"

maybe the newer one's like yours shoot decent the one i owned didn't[V]

Why bother? The crud tightens everything up. It may shoot minute of barn then!

    Seriously-
If the damper (barrel)is already tuned, I would make some sort of witness mark for replacement in the exact same spot.

I'd call Ruger. You may not need to take it off.

If you are getting good performance out of it, be thrilled and leave it alone. Barrel components have survived much nastier treatment and still provided a long service life.

IF some 'crud' can get in there, your cleaning solutions should too....the same with whatever you use to clear out solvents and leave protective coatings for storage.

As for other somewhat negative comments..... The Mini-14 has earned them. I have one of that dark vintage that shoots well (sub 3") in comparison to others I read about... but that did not happen until I found the hand-load it liked.

According to Ruger the new target will shoot MOA with proper tuning of the barrel dampener.
