Original 1851 Navy Colt

Hello,

Sorry, but your photography is not good enough. Photos are too dark, too distant, & too out of focus to tell a lot. Plus, they don't tell us things we need to know that only a hands-on examination can tell us.

I looked at all of your pictures but saw none showing the serial numbers or cylinder scene. What is the serial nunber and do they match on the frame, backstrap, trigger guard, barrel wedge, cylinder, loading lever and cylinder arbor pin? How is the battle scene on the cylinder? Can you read the "Engaged May 18, 1843" on the front of the cylinder? Are there any markings on the grips? Is the "Colt's Patent" stamping on the frame clear? Are there any "US" markings or anchor stampings? How is the action?

OK, it's a Third Model Navy made in 1861. The cylinder should read "Colt's Patent" not "US Patent" but it's probably just worn. It looks like a lot of "blood pitting" on the cylinder and elsewhere but overall, the gun looks to be in fair condition. I would list it on the auction side at $1,000 with no reserve and let the market determine the final price. However, you do need much clearer pictures.

My father in law may have it sold to a friend of his who is a collector. If it falls thru, I will post it on the auction side for sure. Thanks again for your help on this. Let me know if you ever need any help pricing vintage guitars!
