It would be best if you addressed the legal status of the shotgun before doing any further research, or exhibited it to 3rd parties.

The most important thing that affects it's legal status, is barrel length, i.e. it has to be a least 18" long from the breech face.

During the 1930's when this shotgun was apparently made, this wasn't a big thing as far as the feds were concerned. Nowadays it is.

If the barrel is of legal length, put it on GunBroker. I would love to bid on it.

Please note- if this is a pistol, AND if the barrel has rifling, you are good to go. The 18" length is for SMOOTHBORES. If it is less than 18", smoothbore, and was made that way originally, you have an NFA arm that would be classed as AOW- any other weapon. While it does require registration with the ATF, the fee is $5.

I have a question about Harry De Vrieze's gun .
If the barrel is less than 18 in. and smooth bore and never registered . Can he now get it registered ? If he can great but if not what should he do with it ?

Whoops- spoke too soon. IF the barrel is less than 18" (and overall length 26") AND it is a smoothbore, it is an NFA arm- either AOW (any other weapon) or SBS (short barreled shotgun). IF it has never been registered with the ATF, it cannot be. Relevant reference is in the National Firearms Act Handbook, pg 58, section 9.5.3.4, which requires the executor of an estate who discovers unregistered NFA arms to contact the BATF, and surrender them. Sorry. Now, having said that, would thoroughly check for any tax paperwork that may exist, and have the BATF run a check to see if it is in their system.
