Kar 98K Bolt Question

I just recieved a KAR 98K I had ordered online from Empire Arms. My question is in relation to how the bolt functions, when unloaded if I attempt to push the bolt forward the upper edge of the magazine well catches it and does not allow it to be fully pushed forward and close. I have an M-48 and the magazine well does not catch like this, nor does it on my Mosin 91/30. I was curious if this is a defect that I should have someone look at? Or if this was some sort of system to allow the user to know that he had run out of rounds. If I slightly depress the mag well, everything runs very smoothly.

This caught me off guard, and unfortunately I do not know any experts personally, so I hope someone might know on these forums.

They are all that way. It is to signify you are out of ammo and need to reload. In the stressful situation of combat, without it, you would end up closing the bolt on an empty chamber. Always remember,
BOOM better than CLICK.

Thanks for the info, I dont know why I had never heard of that before. Glad to know it is nothing that needs fixing.

grind a taper on back of the follower then you can close the bolt
