Good evening, Could anyone out there give me information on a Model 1840 S. North, Calvary Carbine? This gun comes complete with powder horn and shot pouch and is in perfect working condition. I believe the piece was manufactured by Simeon North in Middleton, Connecticut circa 1840. This piece has been family owned since 1870. In researching the item I have been unable to locate any physical images of the firearm online or otherwise. I am finding likeness drawings only. The breech separates from the rifle, transforming the gun from a rifle to a pistol. I am hoping to determine the rarity, value etc. of the gun. All information and inquiries are welcomed. Many thanks.

Your description lacks clarity, unfortunately. My best guess, due to the markings you describe, is that your families heirloom is a "Model 1840 Hall-North Breech-Loading Percussion Carbine".
Approximately 6,500 were manufactured by North in the early 1840's. If in factory original, very good condition it would have quite considerable collectors value, probably in the $4000 to $7000, range.
