yugo ak problems

i have a yugo ak47 and its having some issues. i can cock it and fire a few rounds and then i wont fire again, i pull back the bolt and it spits out a new unfired shell, it is cycleing a new round,so i dont know if its the trigger or the firing pin or what. any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check to see if the firing pin had struck the primer? If so perhaps it's not the gun but the ammo.

make sure that the bolt is going all the way forward, could be some grit in the spring that causes the gun not to cycle properly

no it had not been struck , we actually picked the ones it spit out up cleaned them and re used them they worked the next time through

Is the hammer following the bolt forward when it fails to fire?
Do you hear the hammer fall?

Try different ammo. Might be short stroking and not cocking the hammer. Run it with the dust cover off. You'll be able to see if the hammer is being cocked or following the bolt. Wear your glasses!!

I had a similar problem with a Romanian AK-47. Took it apart and cleaned about four pounds of cosmoline out of the firing-pin channel and it was OK.

what exactly is cosmoline?

Basically a really nasty,thick,and smelly preservative grease they smother guns in to ship or store them for long periods of time.
