Has anyone seen or obtained one of these rifles? They were in 30-06 caliber, with a receiver sight like tha 1903A3 springfields.

You may already know this but you can find pictures of this rifle in Ball's third edition of Military Mauser Rifles of the World. The rifle you are seeking is called the Model 1954 short Rifle, for the year it was adopted. It was discontinued in 1955. For all intents and purposes it is a short Model 1936. Except, as you noted, it has sights almost like the M1903-A3.
To say I've handled one in the past is true. But that years before I ever got to appreciate Mausers the way I do today. And, unfortunatately, my dad was about as anti-Mauser as you could get. Especially ones made in Mexico. So, I dismissed it as something of no value. If you are looking to get your hands on one that would be a good one to get.
