Beretta 96 to 92?

A 96 has a beefier frame than the 92 dosn't it? Could you swap uppers on a 96 frame? I have a chance to buy a used 96 and see from time to time 92 uppers for sale.

    Beretta says slides are not interchangeable between the 92 and the 96 unless built that way at the factory. Beretta produced, a few anyway, of a "combo gun" which was a 92FS with both 9mm and 40 S&W slides/barrels. Came in the standard blue beretta box but formed to hold the gun and the extra slide. Not many of these around though.
