How do I find the age of this older pistol
it has serial # on the rail and a different serial # on the frame.

    If the numbers are different, then at some point the matching numbers have been broken up and parts substituted.

    Most PP's have to be approximated as records were ost or destroyed at the end of the war. They can be ballparked as some milestone numbers are recorded. If postwar, there may be a year next to, or part of, a proofmark.

    By rail, do you mean the slide?

    If it was a police tradein from the 70 - 80's, there was a second number punched into the slide.

    The numbers on the "slide" are 390**2p

    The numbers on the frame are..389**3 p

    The grips are blk with the Walther name in a little ribbon type thingy at the top of the grip.
    the grips appeer to to be plastic & checked.

    My grand father had this gun as long as I can remember........it's a cute little purse gun.
    It's a nice little shooter !
