I am considering a project for a single shot "survival" type firearm if I can find a plain rifled barrel chambered for .45 long colt and .410 about 10"-12" in length. Where would I look for something like this?

    JJ,
Nothing wrong with Thompson Contender or Encore. I just have an old .410 single shot receiver that I would like to make into something useful and legal. I know it may not make economic sense, more like an exercise in trying to make lemonade out of some lemons.

I have a machinist friend that tells me he can fabricate the parts necessary to attach a barrel to the receiver. I also have the parts that were removed from the old ruined .410 barrel that could possibly be silver soldered to a replacement barrel.

Sorry, I misunderstood, thought you were looking for a new gun.

Even with a rifled barrel, making a handgun from a shotgun receiver would require federal registration as a "firearm made from a shotgun."

    Edit- Robin:
Since it is made from a shotgun receiver, the tax would be $200.

Bill, that is my understanding also and it requires the $5.00 AOW stamp correct?

Edit: Actually this particular shotgun receiver came in .410 smooth bore, 28 smooth bore, 32-20 and .22 LR from the factory (H&R) so, I think there is an argument to avoid the $200 stamp, i.e. it is not strictly a shotgun receiver. Although I am going to look into the TC with the .45LC/.410 barrel to avoid the hassels. That is a neat set up, just what I am trying to make.

KK: your one of a kind sounds interesting, I'll try to find the pictures in the archives.

Numrich Arms has a lot of miscellaneous barrels.

It's best to order their catalog.

    Robin,
Another item to look at is the REXIO pistol. It is chambered for the combo .45/ .410 that you have asked about.

Now, responders have given me pause regarding ' fabrication '. A year or so ago Bert posted photos for me of my " one of a kind " pistol. It is a ESSEX Arms receiver with what appears to be a Belgium machine gun barrel in .38 cal.Years ago I bought it from this site with no issues. hat do you think ?[?]
