class 3 paperwork question

I've never seen the actual paperwork an individual would have for something full auto. You may remember a post a few weeks ago about a coworkers uncle that died, and they found 4 sets of paperwork for what may be registered auto sears in his safe. Would the item that is registered be on the tax papers anywhere? He thinks that the actual sears are in a safe deposit box ... which the family is having to wait on probate for...

Also, what are just teh registered sears worth? Same as a complete gun minus the cost of a semi gun? I've tried searching completed auctions, no "only sears" have been sold/posted recently...

It should look like the Form 4 on the website below. It will include a tax stamp in the upper right corner. The form 4 will include the serial number and a description of the item including manufacturer and model if any. The going value of a sear is probably $8-10,000. I'm just guessing because I don't deal in autos much.

Mooseyard - thanks, that answered it. Hoping for the family that they are HK trigger packs, but assuming they are "just" M16 sears...

An M16 DIAS (Drop In Auto Sear) will sell for $12500 right now. I would pay that.
Same for an HK sear.

I get to go down and fill out two more form 4s this afternoon. [:D]
