Does anyone know why these hammers are cut?

All of the West German Sig P6 pistols have a small slot cut into the hammers, anyone know why?

I am most likely wrong but one possible reason is someone did not want the owner of these pistols to be able to put a string ETC through the hammer spur and use this to cock the hammer . Just my $.02

Or the Armorer over in Germany cut the hammers of the pistols that had cracked frames, shot out barrels, were due for replacement, etc. [;)]

I have read that it is so that if the gun is dropped on the hammer, the weakened rowell will bend and show it. That would let the agency armorer catch a gun with internal damage to the lockwork.
