am looking for a pistol that is very accurate and lefthanded friendly. How accurate are sigs and springfield xd's? out of the 2 which would be carry friendly for duty? the sig models are 220 229 and 229, dont know anything about the 250 and the xd is a 357.

thanks

Accuracy and combat pistols are usually two different topics, may I ask the reason for this request? Are you going to be shooting anysort of competition?

Although any pistol can be made accurate I have found that the Sig 226 and HK USPn are in a league of thier own. But the gun that I shoot well is not the gun that you will shoot well. You need to find the gun that fits you the best, the better a gun fits you the better you will be able to shoot it.

I'm left handed and I find the controls on the Sig's all but impossible to use. As I remember, They can't easily be converted to left hand use.

If you really need a gun to work as a lefty you can also look at the FNH FNP9 or FNP40, ambi controls and very accurate

First off, congrats on the job. I'm in the final ten for two positions at my local PD. Have you done any firearms training for law enforcement yet? If you haven't, then I recommend you wait and go through training first. If you practice on your own before hand, you may pick up bad habits that will be hard to break at a later time. If you are looking for a good ambi duty gun, I would look at the Glock, SA-XD or HK USP w/Ambi controls. The SIG is a great gun, but the slide release is very far back and can not easily be hit with the left index finger. It may sound weird, but if your looking for a duty gun, you are not looking for an accurate gun. Most gun fights happen in very short distances (3-7 yards)and any quality gun (GLock, HK, SIG, or SA-XD) will be accurate enough in those distances. Good Luck and I hope this helped.

Take a look at the S&W M&P'S, they are left hand friendly.
