I have a practically NEW Remy 700 chambered in .270 and tooooooo many "middlin'" calibers, BUT no 22-250, so I guess you can see where this is leading.....
In your opinion does this rifle (Remington Model 700 BDL, cal.270 Win) make a particularly poor choice for re-chambering, for some reason I may not be aware of?
My intent is to buy a NEW 28"-30" quick-twist bull barrel and have a local smith re-chamber it to 22-250 AI.Yes, I intend to speak with my gunsmith, too, I just wanted to check with y'all for suggestions and input.
Thanx in advance for your opinions!

Poor choice? Not really a poor choice but not necessarily the best choice.
The Remington M700 Long Action is used for the '06 based cartridges such as your .270 Win. In order to use the action for the 22-250 Rem. you need to block up the rear of the magazine and use a short action follower and spring. Or, in other words, convert the bottom metal and magazine from a long action into a short action. The best bet is to use the M700 Short Action and not have to fight this magazine problem.
The other drawbacks are obvious. The barrel is a .277" groove diameter and can't be made into a .22 (.224") caliber. The other problem is that the factory barrels can't be shortened that far to get rid of enough chamber even if you could use the .277" diameter. You don't have enough barrel diameter to cut a new thread tenon.
A new barrel does not require re-chambering, it simply needs the chamber cut in the first place. Your idea of a quick twist barrel 28-30" long is just about right for most loads using the longer, heavier, VLD bullets supported by the Ackley Improved chamber and the quick twist. Slow powders will work better than any others. It's a great project!
Best.
