winchester pre model 70

Hi..i hope bert can help with this..i bought a pre 64 model 70 in 300 win mag..the proof marks do not line up and i was told there was an article about this showing that sum of 300 win mags came way..is that true?Thanks

    Roger Rule's book "The Rifleman's Rifle", on page 138, shows a couple of examples of this and one photo (serial number 552,290) mentions a .300 Win. Magnum. It further states that this is found on some late rifles. It probably wasn't isolated to the .300 Win. Mag.

    As Old-Colts mentioned, yes, it did happen, and it was not just isolated to the 300 Win Mag rifles.
