About 15 years ago, Navy Arms and Century Arms imported alot of Ishapores and re-worked alot of them. Navy Arms sold alot of them in a jungle carbine set up, short "tanker" model, and some chromed. They may have parkerized some too.
That may be what your store has.

The Navy/Century imports were not model 2A's.

Numrich Arms imported the 2A's in 2005; all were 7.62 NATO. All were originally blue, but the metal was painted black during arsenal rebuild. Most had stocks with patches, although a small number had stocks that were in good condition.

The Indian military doesn't do parkerizing, which is why they use house paint to refinish guns. The rifle you saw was undoubtedly parkerized by a previous owner.

In the last year, 2A's have sold on GB in the $150-200 range.

EDIT: NILLC, W Hurley NY Replacing the wood on these is difficult, as most used wood is unmatched in color & condition, & no one is making repro wood because of no demand.

Mine is painted black also. My guess is that it was owner done also. I have never seen one parkerized either but that does not mean that it is not possibly correct. They are good shooters and .308 ammo is readily available.

Years ago when these rifles were hitting the market, my small refinishing business "parked" a number of these rifles. As you live in east Tenn. as I do, you may have gotten one of them. BTW, word on the street was the receivers would stretch when using full power ammo. A little later I picked about 5,ooo rounds of .308 made for the rifle in India by Ishapore or a supplier. The ammo was so down on power it would not cycle either my FN FAL or M1A.
