Thompson makes a barrell that fires 410 shotshells and 45 Colt. A 454 also fires 45 Colt. Does this indicate that a Thompson barrell will also fire the 454?

Any one know where to get a schematic on the old style contender? This frame has been to the factory without any fixing the problem. I seem to have problems explaing to the young lady that when the hammer falls it does not hit the firing pin. hammer needs to fall 1/16 inch more to hit firing pin. Repair list that was returned stated firing pin replaced and checked ok. It does not check ok in Alabama. Anyone have suggestion of the problem. JC

Ok i know this is a beaten dead horse but I have a [?][?][?]
about the how the fram is register I am looking at a 223 that is a rifle and will be wanting to change it over to a pistol from time to time I emailed the dealer and asked how it was reg. and he emailed me
that with a form 4473 the FFL can check Rifle or Handgun.
is this so or does it need to be register as a pistol from tc[?][?]
    thanks

Ran into a guy that says he gas one in 454 casull. I can't find that in my blue book. Is he blowing smoke? If not, anyone know what it might be worth in like-new condition?

    Thanks,

Just bought a Thompson Contender G2 pistol. My question is will the front hand guard fit the 10" and 12" barell or do I need to purchase one for each barell?I also would like to scope a couple of barells for it.Do the barells come pre drilled for scope. This is my 1st contender so I could use any info on it.I am going to go with the 12" and 14" barells only. Thanks for any info. My dad gave me this good looking pistol with a 357 barrel and the leopold scope. Sure is pretty. Not a scratch on it. How would you you rate the quality of this firearm? I'd never sell it, but is it worth anything?

You don't have to break open the action to cock the hammer on the G2.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

on the older Contender frames if you had the hammer cocked and then decided not to shoot and let the ahmmer down , you had to open the action to reset the sear , on the G2 frame this is NOT nessary

also the butt stock for the G2 will not fit on the older frames , but barrels do interchange

    tugboatron,

I also understand that the safeties are different. I have a G2 and have shot contenders in the past but can't remember particulars about them. With the G2 safety I put it in Nuetral and let the hammer down without the possibility of it going off.

The G-2 also looks like a little Encore, unlike the Contender.

The older Contenders have a nicer trigger.

    Amen to that.

The older contenders allowed the user to adjust sear engagement and trigger pull weight. With the G2 T/C put the same lawyer-friendly trigger group that the Encore has. It allows you to let the hammer down and then recock, but it is a task to get the trigger pull to some semblance of decent.

I have both and just to hit a few high points, the older Contender does have a better trigger. But the G2 can have the trigger worked on and can be made quite good. The G2 is more durable - I use my G2 for heavier calibers such as 45/70 and 375 JDJ while the older Contender is used for 22 Hornet, 223 & 30.30 WCF.

    Contender barrels fit all Contenders.

Older Contenders have a physical block that prevents the hammer from contacting the firing pin when set. The hammer will still fall, it just won't hit the firing pin.

You can lower the hammer on a G2 without having to open the action, on an older Contender you have to recock. Opening the action on an older Contender is harder. You can send your old style Contender in for an "easy open" upgrade, costs about $75.00.

The grip angle on the old style Contender is different than the new. It's a bit sharper and with heavier calibers you can knock your knuckles on the trigger guard spur.
