Honestly I am going with Beretta on this as it has the interchangeable grip inserts. I also really like the rotating barrel locking system. I have the same system on my Beretta Cougar and it does tame the recoil.

However my favorite 40 S&W gun is my Steyr M40A1

I can not comment on the FN, but I have the Beretta PX4 Storm in 9mm and I really like it. I have had many polimer framed guns, from a Styer to a S&W (SW99)and Sig Sauers (Pro and 239) and I like the feel and function of the Beretta better than the others I've had.

Both the PX4 and the FNP are great guns, try them both out and get the one that fits you the best. Remeber both of them have interchangable backstraps so those will change the feel of both guns. The FNP does come with 3 mags over the beretta's 2, but the only thing I can say that I do not like about the PX4 is the slide mounted decocker, everything else is great.
