Herters U-9 300 Win Mag

A friend of my Dad's has a Herters U-9 300 Win Mag Presentation Super Deluxe Grade, with a Redfield 4-12x Accu-Range scope. He thinks he bought it sometime around 1967, but doesn't remember. He has 7 1/2 boxes of ammo and 4 1/2 boxes of 1x fired brass to go with it.
Those 4 1/2 boxes were the only rounds fired through it, and it is in perfect condition.

Any ideas on value? Would he be better off to sell the scope separate from the rifle?

I have a U 9 that I bought in 67 when I was home on leave on my way to Viet Nam. It came from Herters, I have a 3-9 Redfield on it and it's a 300 Win mag. According to the Blue Book they are worth about $300.00 at best. Mine has been glass bedded and floated for 25 years, has killed more elk than you can haul in a semi and there ain't been enough money printed to buy it. That said, the gun, scope and shells are probably worth $600.00 around here. Good luck.

Have a Herter's XJ-3, and agree with the dark capt to a point. They bring about what the blue book indicates in my part of the country: $300 in very nice shape. I would be most happy to sell mine for $600!! The scope alone might go $100 if you found just the right collector, but likely less at most shows or auctions.

Nice to see you around here again Darkstar11![^]
