Does anyone have information on Mathieu Arms? I understand it was a predecessor to Weatherby. They made left handed rifles. Any info would be greatly appreciated, especially about their 30-06. Thanks, Gary

    wildwood5,

I'm not sure you can use the term 'predecessor' since they actually sold left-hand actions to Weatherby for use in making Weatherby rifles.

A quote from an article on Weatherby:

"Aside from the Winchester and Springfield actions mentioned earlier, many Weatherby rifles were made using actions from Schultz & Larson (.378 Weatherby Magnum) and Mathieu (left-hand only). Mauser actions were provided at various times by Fabrique Nationale, Sako and Brevex (.460 Weatherby Magnum)."

These totally custom actions were designed and manufactured by Mathieu Arms Co. located in Oakland, CA. The first actions were released in 1950 and used by Weatherby until the release of their own Mark V action in 1958. Fajen fitted stocks to barreled actions and listed them in their 1961 catalog.

    Standard action = $162.50

    Magnum action = $175.00

    Barreled action = $211.45

    Stocked by Fajen = $277.50

There is a fair article in Bolt Action Rifles by Frank de Haas

    Best.
