Advice? shoot it or store it (Ruger Red Label)

I acquired a Ruger Red Label, 12 gauge O/U that is new, in the box. The date of manufacturing indicates that is it the 1st year they manufactured the 12 gauge line (1982). The serial # is fairly low at 003xx.

I am all for shooting my guns and not saving them. Should I reconsider storing this gun and not shoot it? Just want some other opinions. Thanks

depends on how much you paid for it.
i would sell it and get one thats been fired and use the extra cash to buy ammo.

If I recall in the first year of manufacture the 12 gage Red Labels were shipped with a small ejection problem. The angle of the break open was too small to allow fired shells to eject past the breech. Ruger recalled them and reworked them to open to a greater angle to allow the shells to eject properly. Those are GREAT guns I would hwve to shoot it if it were mine, but one part of me would want to put it away aswell. You have a tough decision to make. Good Luck!!! [8D]

Think I would find out how much it was worth.

Not a tough decision at all. Find another Red Label that has been used but not abused to shoot, and keep this one unfired in the box. Either that, or shoot it and enjoy, the devil be damned. If you want something you can only look at but not handle and enjoy, buy stocks or maybe an issue of Playboy.
(Just my 2 cents worth on collecting. Whatever floats your boat.)

If I ever win the lottery I am going to buy "collectible" guns just to SHOOT THEM and freak out the collectors. Shoot it. That's what it was made for.

If you can't decide, flip a coin. If it were mine I'd either shoot it or sell it. A gun is just an expensive paperweight if you don't shoot it.

It's not a gun which is ever going to be a high value item. The RL is a good, but not a great, gun.

It'll cost you a couple hundred dollars to shoot it. What did you buy it for in the first place? If as a shooter, enjoy it. If as an investment, sell it and buy something which has a better chance of appreciation.
