Winchester 100 "RED LETTER"

Don't want to sound stupid here, but why is it that some of the Winchester model 100 rifles have a RED LETTER on the grip and some don't? Does it make the gun more valueable if it has it or is it just for show? I see you cna but the RED LETTER and put it on if you choose to...

    If I remember correctly,on a gripcap, they did this on post 64 guns for only a couple of years. Winchester was trying everthing they could to sell "post 64" guns to be as good or better than pre-64's. To my knowledge it has no $ addition.
