"Pupped" AK's

My youngest son, now 20, has repeatedly mentioned putting an AK in the "pup" style conversion. Since "pup" may not be the correct lingo...the conversion moves the trigger forward and puts the bolt about 3 inches from your face.

My comments to him have been "Why ? It will not shoot better and the bolt is right in your face."

His response is " We have never had a chambered round accident in thousands of rounds".

While that is true, and he is of age, and the gun is his, does anyone have a more convincing arguement ?

OH, I FORGOT...the reason to convert...." It's COOL "

I don't think I would want my face right over the chamber.[V][xx(][:(][8]

Make sure he wears eye protection!! That little square hole in the back of the receiver has been known to shoot out debris. Grain of sand? Metal shaving? Makes little difference to the eye receiving the FOD. Joe

JoeI agree with always wearing eye protection, but in a bull-pup configuration the opening at the rear of the dust cover would be in the shoulder. The shooter's face would be way up in the chamber area.

My issue with bull-pup conversions is that they become strictly right handed guns. It's better to have the option of shooting from either side.
