I have a Remington 1100 TRAP-T 12ga w/ 30 inch bbl FULL choke...The bolt on it will not snap shut as normally should happen, instead when you push the release button underneath, it just CREEEEEPs forward and does not close all the way.....Could it be it is just dirty from sitting in a closet for so many years or is it a more serious problem[?]perhaps the "o" ring??? ANY HELP???

Dity. "O" ring would not cause this problem

it needs a good cleaning, especialy the gas system and maybey the action spring (in the butt stock).

    time to clean.[;)]
dh....isnt the bolt carrier part of the o ring and gas piston system? if the o ring area is crudded from sitting from years 'cocked back' in a closet, it may be rotted to the mag tube and the gas system may be crudded up too?

Hello gregw: When pushing the release button manually and the bolt only creeps forward like you said!!! It's time to remove the butt stock and clean all the recoil related parts inside the butt stock.

The "gas system and oring" that's what OPENS the bolt during firing!! It has nothing to do with CLOSING the bolt, closing the bolt during firing or manually.

Unscrew the forearm cap, pull the forearm off, pull the barrel off, pull the o-ring and the gas rings off the tube, (Lay out in the order they are in so you don't reverse them when reinstalling). Push the carrier in, hit the slide release, pull out the slide/bolt. Using a small punch tap out the two pins that hold the trigger guard assy. Now you will see a little part sticking out from the rear of the receiver, (two legs that are attached to a wide flat bar if you will). It's this that pushes the bolt back to the closed position, from the spring in the butt stock. Using a small pair of needle nose pliers, press the two legs together at the narrow end. pull out.

Now your ready to remove the butt stock, remove the recoil pad, and go from there. Once the stock is off you will have access to all the moving parts inside the stock. If after a good cleaning the problem still exists, it's time for a new recoil spring. they will lose strength over time, but I'll bet it's just dirty!

    Regards Dave

I used to shoot 1100 a lot while duck hunting and I have had a similiar problem many times. Clean the 3 rings located under the forearm of the shot gun and replace them the same way they came off. If they are dirty or have the 2 metal rings have been interchanged this problem will occur. Believe me have had the same problem, that nearly ruined several good hunts.

how long has it been in storage??

you may want to get another O-ring anyway, I have the same gun
Viton O rings are best but the ones from the hardware store are cheaper and easily obtained.

    Viton O-ring size 021 - for 12 gauge 1100 & 11-87
    hardware store size 15/16"id 1-1/16"od 1/16" width

if it has been stored for longer than a yr the o-ring will have dried out and it will only take a few boxes before you have the opposite problem
