OLDER SAVAGE HELP!!!

I have an older Savage 30-30 rifle that I am having trouble determining what model it is exactly..It is a 30-30 with a 20" barrel approx, on the top of the receiver, it looks to have the numbers 899 model stamped into it but I cannot tell due to wear..The stock is straight no pistol grip, shell counter on the side, cocking pin that pops up on top of receiver and open sights..I am goingto try to post some pics if I can...ANy help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

would my gun be a carbine as it has a 20" bbl? Any idea of price or is there a letter prefix (G,C,E,F,H)?

the serial number would help determine the exact model but by all indecations it looks to be a 1899 H with no sadlering they were made from 1923- 1940 if it is the serial number should be in the 220,000 to 400,000 range, acording to my murrys book. that is a nice gun, I have a few of them and they are a working piece of art , enjoy.

serial number is 268638, it is a nice gun, not in bad shape for it's age, it does have a small chunk missing behing the receiver on the top of the stock, nothing harsh...Any idea on ballpark value? or is in the eyes of the beholder?
