Best/fun 22, Auto, Plinker, HELP!

Hello to All,
I did some searches here on the forum, but they did not answer my question. I am looking for a fun, 22LR, plinker, autoloader, hopefully one that has a high cap. mag. Does not jam all the time, and what would be even more fun would be one that makes me think i am shooting something else!
Ex: I remember seeing a Ruger 10/22 that looked like a German WW2 MG-42. I remember seeing a belt-feed 22LR but it was $$$! I have seen the MP5 look-a-like and would like to know how it functions, any jams?

You can't beat the 1022. Also look at the T-C R-55.

Do you need a rifle or a pistol? I assume rifle based on your remarks above.

There are a lot of "dress up" kits for the Ruger 10/22 action that make it look like something else, eg a Kalshnikov, an AR-15/M4, a Dragunov, a match rifle, etc. This gun is pretty reliable. Some examples:

You can get a converter that will let you shoot .22s out of your AR-15 style rifle, though I can't comment on reliability.

+2 or +3 on the Ruger 10-22, accurate, reliable, and a lot of aftermarket stuff. Comes with a 10 round mag but 25's are easy to find and higher cap are available. Mine is stock except for the scope and 25 round mag. love it.

Thank you Gentlemen for the good advice, and for the GREAT web links! I think i need to stay away from the "Bullpup" models as I am a leftie shooter.

I know that in the past I had seen a 22lr that looked somewhat like a Russian PPSH, and another that had a pan mag on top, anybody know what these were called?
Any other odd 22lr's anybody can think of?

I'm a leftie, too, so I can see your point.
I think the one with the pan mag is the American 180(?). I held one a long time ago, it was heavy as a log.

10/22, more accessories available than any other rifle. Extremely accurate and reliable. mho

I have a Marlin model 60 it holds 16 rnds under the barrel and is soo light and easy to shoot. Better than the 10/22 cause you don't have to have any magazines to carry.

To each his own but I hate tube mag. type .22's I like detatchable box mag. also anything hanging off the barrel does not help accuracy. My 10-22 does not have a barrel band, I recommend if you get a 10-22 ditch the barrel band of get a stock that does not have one. My came with a stock without a place for a barrel band. I don't really understand why Ruger likes barrel bands so much. My #3 had one and I redid the stock to get rid of it.
