Remington Model 4 inquiry

My grandfather had a Remington Model 4 that used to be his father's. The best we can guess on the age is around 1900. We are confident as to the make and model, as it looks like the one on the Remington site, octagonal barrel and all. The markings on the gun consist of:
- Remington Arms Co Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A.
- J235861 22 P (the P is rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise though, so it is laying on its back)
- H4 (located on the underside, behind the trigger, on the wood)
- NK (We believe my grandfather had his initials stamped on)

My questions are as follows:
Is this a military, boyscout, or improved model 4?
Any way of pinpointing the date of manufacture?
What is the approximate value of such a weapon?
