High powered rifles... Copper Build up

Barnes CR 10 (they know copper)
    *Sweets 7.62
    Shooters Choice

    Handguns and rimfires...carbon, powder residue
    *Hoppes #9
    *Birchwood Caseys Bore Scrubber

    Lubricants....
    *Break Free CLP
    *Break Free Lubricant/Protectant
    *Mil Tec - 1
    Browning Oil
    *Tetra

    Other good products from

    Wipe out
    BC
    Hoppes/Elite
    Shooters Choice
    Kleen Bore
    Outers
    Barnes
    Tetra makes some great stuff

I don't rely on Hoppes to provide adequate rust protection. We have very humid weather here for 8 months of the year and it would destroy a gun in a year. Also, Rem Oil has failed me a couple times.
I've switched to Break free CLP or just the LP and have had great luck with it.
Half of the lives they tell about me aren't true.

Thanks for the information.. We have very humid weather down here as well. I live in Texas right next to the coast.. All this info should work great.. I have a couple of bolt actions and a couple of semi-pistols and have been using Hoppes for the time being.. I'll have to look up these brands and figure what best... Thanks again!!

What ever brand you choose to clean the barrel of your firearm, use a Hoppe's Bore Snake (in the correct caliber) to clean it with! [;)]

I use alot of aerosol Rem-Oil myself. Seems to work good in the field, until you can get back home for a real cleaning.

    AO2000,

I use Gunslick Bore Foam for my barrels. It works great for removing copper from barrels. You have to let it sit longer than 30 minutes though. I then use use Bore scrubber or Hoppes to clean out the carbon residue from inside the receiver. BreakFree/CLP works good but I haven't run out of this stuff in a while so haven't used it in a couple years.

Thanks guys! I recently just got into this hobby of shooting guns.. I've been hunting all my life and my guns were just something I needed.. But I've been getting more into the hobby of shooting them and learning more about them.. Which will help me on the field.. I just bought a Glock Model 20 today and look forward to using that as well.. I'll have to try some of these brands out to see what works best.. Thanks again!

Bore snakes do a very poor job at best. Get a good cleaning rod from Bore Tech or Dewey. Use cotton patches, not synthetic.

The best lubricant I have found is Castrol synthetic gun lube. I gather it is no longer available. If you find some on a shop shelf, grab it!

Wipe-out is the best bore cleaner I have ever used,...and I have used a ton of them. Wipe-out overnight will clean down to the bare metal,......have someone run a borescope up your barrel and you'll know[;)] Montana Extreme 50BMG is also a close runner-up.

The Sweets 7.62 and Barnes CR10 are excellent for copper removal, especially when used with a good cleaning rod, like Dewey. If the odor is a real indoor problem for you (or a spouse), try JB paste for copper cleaning.
