Browning A-5 serial number question

A friend has her father's older A5, and I noticed a curiosity. the serial number is B41XXX which I think is for 12ga from 1926 (from a google search). The odd thing is the barrel is 2 3/4 shells and stamped St. Louis. This has me thinking the barrel is mid 50's. Am I reading this right?

I think it is a Remington production for Browning with the B prefix. 1946-1951 and 1951 #s ran(+-) B37501-B45000. HTH

I agree... it is a Remington made "American Browning" that was made during the period of time during and shortly after WW II, when production in Belgium was shutdown due to the war. It should have "Remington" marked on the barrel.

Thanks for the info. Makes sense. Was going by #'s, web site didn't
adjust letter prefix w/numbers. That date makes more sense. Didn't
see a Rem stamp but will look next time. The StL indicated Rem. Thx for your replies!
