BPR .22 1st year??

Hi - In looking for a Browning BPR, everything I could find said 1977 was the first year of manufacture. Except the Browning site which shows 1997 to 1982 as the period of production..must be a typo.

So now I have a BPR that shows serial number 00xxxRT176. The number is less than 500 for a 1976 manufacture. A year before the official start of manufacture date. The gun shows as 99% bluing with light marks where a scope was mounted. Not dented from the mounts. Wood has 4 dings that broke the finish and they are small. Wood is 95-98% except for the dings.

Question - shoot or sell? I wanted one to shoot and bought this one at a fair price. But if it would be a good collectors piece, I'd rather sell it and buy another to shoot.

If memory serves? This was a .22 pump made in Italy and sold by Browning in the U.S. under their name.

Unless it was NIB, with all packing, papers etc. I don't see any Browning collector getting excited, and paying top dollar for it.

I would shoot and enjoy it. My 2?.

Nope - marked Made in Japan on it. Just didn't want to mess up something that someone else would really value...

The BPR is a nice 22 auto but I don't think there is or will be much collector interest. I had one once and it functioned well and show well. Shoot it and enjoy it. Now, if you had the Browning Trombone (1920s to 1974 I think) in nice shape that would be another story.
