How difficult is it to form 7.62x39 brass into 22 PCC brass? Does it need to be fireformed?

according to my book you should use 220 russian (SAKO). I cross referenced the 22 ppc brass to the 7.62 and the 7.62 is .441 at the head and the ppc is .440, probably won't work.

    5mmgunguy,

The 7.62 x 39mm is the parent case of the .220 Russian which is the prime case for the .22 PPC and the 6mm PPC.

If you use brass cases, you can go through the effort of reducing them to the .22 PPC but I certainly wouldn't. It's way too easy to get .220 Russian, run it through a die, trim and fireform the cases.

There is a reason that the PPC cartridges are accurate and it's because of the quality of the brass. Using any old 7.62 x 39 cheap garbage brass will not provide you with the same basis for accuracy. But if you just feel the need to go through the steps, have at it!

    Best.
