Can one of you tell me when a Model 90 .22 slide action with the serial number 494285 was made? I do know that it was factory refurbished and has a 90-06 S,L,or LR barrel on it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the date information. Would you please tell me what other parts of the gun you feel were probably swapped out? Yes it does cycle and shoot fine. The receiver and frame both have matching serial numbers. There is not much more to be swapped out unless we are talking about internal parts.
Thanks for taking the time to educate me.
While it has most definitely been reblued/refinished, the work positively was not done by Winchester. Again, the work was most likely accomplished by the same person who installed the mail order replacement barrel. Neither the front or rear sight is factory original.
So, in summary, (1) the barrel, (2) the cartridge carrier, and (3) the sights, are not factory original, and it was not refinished by the factory (the work is way too crude and ameturish).

Just a suggestion - You can still go back an correct your listing as there is more wrong than just the sight ramp. This would be a good credibility builder.
Done deal. Would you mind looking at the auction in question now and see how it reads.
Or would you just start over?
Looking at the receiver/frame if you will you can see where it spent a considerable amount of time being polished. The machined corner radius' have been polished away, which a polishing wheel does quite quickly. The metal was polished much smoother than what the factory would have done, thus the "high luster" blue.
Even when Winchester was still taking firearms back to work on in the 50s and 60s, the gun would have been dissassembled, and the receiver would have been HAND polished. Any stampings in the metal wood have been filled with "soap stone" to maintain their sharpness. As to what blueing method they would have used to redo the gun in the 50s or 60s would not have been a "high luster".
As to the stocks, they were not chemically stripped. They've been sanded, the deep gouses/scratches were not properly addressed.
I'm not sure if all firearms that came back in were stamped "REFIN" or "REFINISHED" I do know they did that on the shotgun side of the house.
While factory refinish is preferred on any Winchester, unless you can find where it's been stamped, have the factory work order showing what they did, or a letter from Cody, stating it was returned to the factory, it becomes hearsay.

Last night I cancelled the first auction, relisted the rifle with all of the new information that I have been given. Thanks for your help, if you did.
