Should I get a FFL

I have know a Gun dealer who pretty much gives awesome deals when my buddies or I are looking. But he can be occasionaly slow and sometimes a pain to work with. The product is always first rate, and he will always make sure you are happy.

My question is should I look into picking up my own FFL or stick with him?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a FFL?

Unless you intend to "engage in the business" of either buying and selling, or repairing firearms, the ATF will not issue an 01 Dealer's FFL. You CAN get an 03 Collector of Curio and Relics Firearms FFL- which covers 50 yr old guns, and guns that have been declared to be C&Rs (Colt Woodsmans, Winchester 88s, etc). To get a dealer's license, you will need to meet all local laws, such as zoning, business license, etc. If your home is your "place of business" you may also have opened up your home for inspection by the BATF. If your intent is for personal use, ATF will not issue a dealers FFL.

Stick with your FFL, and look on Gun Brokers list of other dealers near you. That way you can have more than one if you desire to do so. Be careful you don't piss off your current dealer by price prodding against other dealers. If you do, your now good deals could just tend to leave.

As for your question...I just got rid of my 01 FFL, as it is really to much hastle as a hobby. If you do not intend to go into an all out store front, or do this full time, then don't do it at all.
