I was thinking about building a custom 10/22. What is a better barrel Green Mountain, ER Shaw, or Pig Whistle? I am also looking for a stock I want a Red/Black laminete what is a good brand under $200?

You may want to post your questions over here www.rimfirecentral.com They will have all the info you want for a 10/22 build. My suggestion for barrel would be Lilja or Shilen or Kid if you are looking for the most accurate. If you are looking for a lightweight barrel try Tactical Solutions or Wistle Pig.

    hbk,

You're going to have to be a little more specific. There are so many options for the 10/22 that you could spend a day looking for parts and prices in order to meet your requirements.

If you want to the top quality 10/22 barrel then you need to get a Lilja.

WhistlePig has a good reputation for quality but remember that their barrels are sleeved. That means that the barrel is a rifled liner surrounded by an aluminum sleeve. I don't know if that's a problem for you or not. The others are all steel and rifled as one piece. If price is an overriding concern then you have to go for the lower level barrel makers and take a chance on the quality of the barrel.

The stock is going to depend on who is carrying that color combination. I know Richards does and their 10/22 TackDriver is under $200.00 but you have to do the finishing. If you want a drop-in, finished stock, it's going to cost more. You need to do the searching. Check Boyds also.

    Best.

Also decide whether you want a Ruger aluminum receiver or a Volquartsen steel receiver. I think the Volquartsens are about 200 bucks for the receiver alone; You can get a ruger for 175 bucks, then strip the rest of the gun off it. Poke around volquartsen.com and see what you like. You'll probably end up buying one of their rifles.
