Does anyone know if it is easy to convert a ruger 10/22 into 17 HMR? is it a simple swap of the barrels or is there more to it?

you have to start with a 10/22 magnum rifle and not a standard 10/22 LR version

As stated you can NOT convert a 10/22 into a .17 HMR. You can convert it into an .17 HM2 though as that is based off the .22lr.

The HMR is based on the .22 mag and will need and action long enough to handle the .22 mag length.

With the correct receiver you will also need a barrel. I am not sure if they sell heavier bolts but one popular way is to add a heavier charging handle. With the heavier charging handle you can use the standard bolt.
