gov. issue side arm

My son is going to join the marines and I would like to get him shooting the gun he will be using .Does anyone know exactly what that is? thanks

    That would be the US M9 pistol. The commercial version is the Beretta Model 92FS in caliber 9mm. There are other pistols in use with our armed forces, but the Beretta is the standard side arm for our military.

    That would be the M9 which is a Beretta 92 series hand gun.

    Then again, your son may not be issued a side-arm at all. Not all members of the armed forces (marines included) are issued side-arms.

    Your son is going to receive some of the best marksmanship training in the world so you can rest easy. But if you want to give him an edge up practice with the M16 rifle and the 92F pistol, even if he is issued the M16 a lot of military manage to "find" sidearms when they go into combat.
