Winchester model 37A - Forearm won't Stay on

Is that a common problem with these guns? What is the weak link here - is it the little spring in the mechanism that (I guess) is supposed to lock the forearm to the barrel?

    more than likely it is the latch spring. having not looked at it , i would be thinking that it needs to be straighted out just a little. you might look at the latch on the barrel also. i would begin with the spring first.

    The 37A has a chisel shaped rod with a spring around it. The barrel has the cut angle on the post. If the angle cut is worn or mis-aligned this happens. The spring could also be streched to create more tension.
