12 gauge cartridge length ?

A quick question (i hope!)-Is it possible to shoot 2 1/2" or 2 3/4" shells in a sxs s/gun that has 3" chambers please? Might sound dumb but there may be some reason why not to??--Jerro

    Yes, its perfectly fine to shoot ordinary 2-3/4" shells from a shotgun with a 3" chamber.

    Its done all the time with no issues, and in fact, its probably true that the vast majority of shells fired from those sorts of guns are the 2-3/4" kind.

    2.5" shells? Sure you could. . .not sure why you'd want to. [:D]

    Might be that he's measured a factory shell and found out it measures 2 1/2". Being a new shooter he might have thought someone was trying to trick him. They are called 2 3/4" because that's the length of the spent shell.
