"Special Assembly" Leupold Scope ??

I picked up a Leupold 6-18x40 a few weeks ago that appears to be from 2003.

It is marked "SPEC. ASSY." on the box and carries a "2003 NRA NATIONAL SILHOUETTE CHAMPIONSHIPS" and a serial number.

The crosshairs are VERY fine.

Can anyone tell me about this Leupold?

I was on hold for quite some time, but in the end Leupold Customer Service was very helpful.

'SPEC. ASSY.' means that it is a product of the Leupold Custom Shop.
