How many different cartridges were chambered in the Remington 788?
I have seen 22-250, .44 mag., .243, and .223. A local guy said he had a 788 long ago in .270. I never heard of a long action 788.
I bet him that it was a Model 78.

788's were not made in long action calibers, the rear locking lugs wore quickly under heavy recoil.

They also came in 222. I have one that will shoot like a bench gun at 100yds with a handload. They were a very accurate rifle, but the 700 offered better rigidity and bedding surface as well as the forward locking lugs, so the 788 went to the way-side.

I beleive that the 30/30 is highly collectable due to it's limited production. FYI
