Ruger 10/22 Bolt Lock Release Issue

I finally took an inventory of all the firearms I've accumulated over the past 50 years for insurance purposes. I came across ones that I hadn't seen in decades. The Ruger 10/22 was one of these. When I was obtaining the data off of the firearms such as the serial numbers I also gave each piece a down and dirty "quick clean." When I got to the 10/22 I couldn't get the Bolt Lock Release to function. It had been so long since that last time I cleaned it that I immediately had kind of a 20-year "flash-back" about the same problem. I've gone to Ruger's website and instruction manual for the 10/22 and followed the directions - and still couldn't get it to function. I remember that there was some type of "magic touch" to make it work. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Then all you have to do is trip the bolt handle [:)]
Take it out and modify it to look like the one on the right [;)]

This.
I can Fix it
The aftermarket mag release is also better than the original.
1. Pull the bolt back, and while holding it back, press the very outer TIP of the bolt release to the rear and hold it there with your finger tip while slowly lowering the bolt. It SHOULD engage the hold-open.
2. To release the open bolt, pull it back, and while holding it back, push in and back on the part of the bolt release CLOSEST to the action, and while holding that in, let up pressure on the bolt handle and let the bolt come forward.
For such an excellent rifle, Ruger sure managed to come up with one of the least user-friendly bolt releases on the market. But, once you work it a few times, it will become second nature. [:D]
I did the mod on one of mine and bought the aftermarket bolt release for the other. Both versions work fine. [:)]
If you can not get it to work. Then send it to Me.
